Kuwait in preparation for the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS)

The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) hosted a national consultation workshop Kuwait in preparation for the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS). The workshop was organized in partnership with the Humanitarian Forum (THF) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(UNOCHA) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on the 9th of June. 48 participants representing 27 Kuwaiti NGOs discussed and reviewed the new humanitarian agenda and ways forward to make positive and practical recommendations for progress. The participants also discussed the humanitarian effectiveness and accountable partnerships.  The participants highlighted the importance of encouraging the culture of volunteerism in humanitarian action and integrating it into the school curriculum. Educational activities need to be developed to target donors and invite them to consider both reliefs as well as development interventions as they make their grants.  Participants explained the need to develop shared human values that are based on Muslim and Arab culture. This dimension can then be transferred into the school curriculum, training programs and other education activities. The participants also reviewed the role of the Waqf (Muslim Endowments) in sustaining and developing new innovative projects.
